Afrox pioneered the LPG business in South Africa in the early 1950s when it imported LPG in cyliners from the UK.
Dvevlopment of the Afrox infrastructure in the 1980s was synonymous with the growth of LPG in the Afrox portfolio, which was boosted by acquisition of two existing large-scale LPG businesses in South Africa in the early 1990s, followed by other distributor operations in Botswana and Mozambique and the introduction of a hospitality packaged gases service, Suremix, to the restaurant, pub and entertainment in industries.
Today, the Handigas brand is the largest selling brand of LPG in southern Africa and has a significant and growing presence in the company's sub-Saharan operations.
